Science & History museums & Tower Bridge if you have time

I would start at bank and watch all the workers rush to their office jobs. Take a stroll towards brick lane and get a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Then go and look at Hoxton Square while no one is there and wonder what the big deal is. After that get a bus down to the museum of London and learn a bit about the city before lunch.

For lunch I'd walk down past St Pauls Cathedral over the 'wobbly' bridge to the tate and have a sandwich in the members bar and admire the views of the thames and the city.

Then I would stroll across the south bank to view the houses of parliment - I might even go on the London Eye if the weather was nice. After having a drink at one of the restaurants around there, I would go over the river then up to covent garden. Do a little shopping and watch some of the goofy acts that go on there.

Then I'd make my way into soho and get a cheap dinner from one of the many restaurants then make my way to leicester square to watch a movie.

Great Question!

If i had one free day in London i would get up early and run through the city of London dodging the workers to the embankment, i'd run along there to big ben stopping strategically to stretch and marvel at the amazing view across the thames.

After that i would spend the morning in the Tate Modern which will attack the senses.

On the afternoon, i'd emerge myself in a bit of retail therapy before retiring for an early afternoon drink in central London.

I'd then continue drinking once the pubs filled with people finishing work, hopefully the weather would be good and we'd be spilling onto the streets having a good laugh. Come 11pm i'd head off over to east London - Shoreditch, Old Street, Hoxton and get myself into the cooler bar before getting down and dirty in a club playing house and breaks.

In the club i would have met some new friends, bumped into some old ones and headed off to a party, during the morning
we would have stumbled to a grocers and bought extra booze at least twice and on both occasions i would have witnessed that special light that London has on a morning between 5 and 7.

By 9am we would head off to one of the market pubs that has special licensing hours and get dug in for at least another 4 hours of drinking believing that i'd go home soon. In reality, we would probably party on through to the next morning.

You will suffer on the morning after, but it would have been a great 48 hours - i think the message here is one day in London is not enough!!

Start off with a morning flight on the London Eye, walk down the River Thames a short way after that, go over the bridge to Parliament square, walk down Whitehall, see the guards at Downing Street then walk past Trafalgar Square, have a pizza at Leic Square and see a movie at Odeon then have some food in Chinatwon before doing some last minute shopping in Regent St and Oxford St.

It all depends on the weather for that day and what interests you. The aprks, Kew Garden if the weather is good and you like that sort of things. The museums, art galleries etc if youike that sort of things. Or just walk along the London streets and enjoy the buzz. If you like shopping, then go to Oxford Street.

I took my girlfriend to London for her birthday last year. We went on The London Eye, took a lunch cruise up the Thames and then went to see the Billy Elliot stage show in the evening.

Brilliant day!!

I'm a courier living in Manchester, and I have to go to London every night and deliver through until early morning, so my free day would NOT be in London.

Museum of London is good, or the British Museum, though you need more like a week there

Go and watch a show in the West end and a meal. See the Palace, Trafalgar square, Westminster Abbey, but keep away from those tubes.
