you should get a left handed guitar because the way a guitar is played, the right hand will be working with the neck of the guitar, and the left hand will strum it. it really depends on whether or not you have alot of control over your right hand. if you don't, buy a left handed guitar. if you do, buy a right handed guitar. if you go into a store that sells guitars (like Sam Ash or Guitar Center), they should let you try out the guitar before you buy it.

Don't get a lefty, I say. I'm a lefty and I play a standard, right handed guitar.

See, you use both hands. I think your fretting hand is used more. With your picking hand, you just pick the strings, the fretting hand moves around a lot more.

If you get a lefty, you'll get used to playing one, then you'll never be able to play anyone else's guitar. If you're at someone's house and they have a guitar, you won't be able to play it. If you're at a bar watching a band and they ask you to sit in, you can't unless you have your guitar with you. If you ask me, playing a left handed guitar will hurt you more than it will help you.

You will learn to play what ever guitar you practice on. Do yourself a favor and get a standard guitar.

To workingman, I'm a left hander, and I have no problem playing bar chords. That makes no sense, you use your left hand to bar the chord, if anything a lefty will be better at playing bar chords.

get right handed because on a right hand guitar your left hand works the neck and your right strums. On a left guitar its reversed. You dont want your dominant hand do do minimal work. The reason why your hand is dominant is because it communicates best with the brain.

It will feel more natural to you if you learn to play left-handed.

There are advantages to learning guitar right-handed, though.

There are many, many more right-handed instruments available, and at a lower cost than a 'lefty' model. Say you are at a friends house and you would like to pick up his guitar and strum a few chords - it is much more likely that he is a 'righty'. This holds true for guitar hardware and accessories as well (i. e. - pickups, cases, whammybars, etc...)

Did I mention a right-handed guitar is generally less expensive than a left-handed model? More right-handed varieties are available, more righties are manufactured.

Left dominant? More work? Irrelavent.

get a left handed guitar. you would think it would make more sense to assign your dominant hand to the most difficult section of the guitar which would be the fretting. but you focus almost all your attention on fretting the guitar. by using your dominant hand to strum you dont need to focus on strumming as much since everything you do with your dominant hand feels natural and doesnt require much thought. and your left hand will learn to fret and that will eventually come naturally.
think about it, where do you look when you learn to play guitar? you look down the fretboard. you have more control over your dominant hand and dont need to keep an eye on it to control it accuratly.

Well, I play guitar and I'm left handed. I have a right handed guitar. It really only depends on what you feel most comfortable with. Try them both and then make your decision. Good luck!
