Honestly, just about any small food item their claws can manage.

This is especially true if you are talking about hermit crabs of the small, pet-shop aquarium variety, any sort of fruit, nut, seed or small edible piece of meat or kelp will do. Most aquarium and pet-shop sellers that sell Hermit Crabs recommend that you stick to plant life since the basic crab itself starts life as a flexible herbivore that *can* eat some meat protein only after becoming larger in its life. In other words: feed your pet crab small slices of fresh fruit (bananas, apples, oranges, berries, almost anything will work), nuts and seeds (individual shelled peanuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, popcorn--though air-popped is healthier than microwaved seven days out of seven), and maybe the rare bit of fresh tuna or small shrimp...

Hope this one helps, and good luck with your cool new pet, I've always wanted one of those....;)

Hermit crab food-get it at your local pet store

Anything EXCEPT dairy products, citrus fruits, tomatoes, and table salt. These foods will kill your hermies. They even eat SOME types of flowers as long as you make SURE they do not contain pesticides. Be SURE to wash ANYTHING you give them. You can buy "crab cakes" at your local pet store also.
You must also be SURE to offer salt water (ocean salt NOT table ~ you can find the solution at your local pet store) as well as fresh water (any water suitable for aquariums). If you use tap water for mixing EITHER fresh or salt water, the chlorine MUST first be removed with chlorine remover from your local pet store.
They must be misted daily. Be sure the chlorine has been removed from the misting water also.
There are several sites for hermit crab lovers on the web. I can't think of them off the top of my head, but they shouldn't be too hard to find.
I think one is crabstreetjournal.com.

They are like crabs and lobsters they are scavengers mostly. I have seen videos of dead marine life being eaten by everything else in the sea but the crabs were really aggressive.
