Are there cents in pounds? will GBP580.25 be 580 pounds and 25 CENTS?

In the past you would have had to deal with 20 shillings to the pound and 12 pence to the shilling making 240 pence to every pound.

Fortunately today, pounds are broken into 100 parts (pence) so they can easily be expressed in decimals. Similar to the way the US uses a cent symbol (¢), they use a p to represent pence.

So £580.25 is:
580 pounds (£580)
25 pence (25p)
