i don't. my mother is a dark brown color and my father is black like tar. i'm light skinned. my mother said i get my height, hair, light skinned, from her father because he's indian and irish. i have reddish/light brown hair. On my father side of the family all of them are short and black.i do not look like my siblings on my mother side cause they are dark skinned. my father's family disowned me probably because i'm light skinned, and my father got killed when i was 2. they don't call me or nothing. So do you think my color is the problem here and do you look like your parents

Well, everywhere I go I get told I look very much like my father. However, I've seen pictures of my biological mother (who died when I was 4), and I think there's a definite mixture. I do have his coloring. However, I am not multiracial (at least not as far back as my family has been traced, though I think we all have some degree of admixture because of the way people migrate between various parts of the world). Your father's family should be ashamed of themselves for disowning a child because of their skin color. The basic laws of genetics say there are several genes that interact to produce a person's coloring (it's not as simple as they used to think), and you may very well have inherited some "light" genes from your mother's side even if she's dark, because those light genes can be masked by the darker color but still passed on to your children. It's all a matter of degree...you probably inherited a few genes that programmed your skin to produce less pigment than your mother from her side of the family. Your color is not the problem...your father's family's attitude is the problem. It's their loss if they're superficial enough to disown you because you don't look like them. You should rise above that and be a better person.

I do. I have my dad's eye shape, but I look very similar to my mom. Our body shape is very similar, our faces are both heart shaped. My hands look just like hers(very bony). My skin color is very pale and rosy like hers. My mom's hair is blonde, with red tints and my hair is light strawberry brown...so there are similarities there as well. I don't think your skin color is a problem. There are many variations of skin tones in families and Irish traits have a tendency to be dominant. I'm Irish and my son's father is Mexican/Indian. My son looks Irish. Light skin, light hair, and blue eyes. Some traits aren't shown but are carried by the parent and can be shown in the child if that trait is stronger than the traits from the other parent.

Genetics are a funny thing, my aunt and uncle are both dark haired and eyed, but all 4 of my cousins are blond with blue eyes. Those genes that your dad had that no one in his family has showed up in you. Maybe they can see a bit of your dad in you and it's too painful for them, maybe they're not very good people. Either way, you have your mom and her family. Get close to them. Tell your mom how it makes you feel for his family to see her, but not want anything to do with you. Maybe she can help out...
I have a friend who is dark brown, but has cousins as white as me. All because of one Italian great-grandmother.
Personally, I look JUST like my mother (some small differences, but it's really obvious) and she looks just like her mother. My brother looks nothing like our father, he looks EXACTLY like my uncle (so much so that I've mistaken a picture of my uncle for one of my brother.).

Color a means of disowning someone? You're better off without then. I'm the spitting image of my mother. It's a scary and wonderful thing. Can't change fate without money and a good doctor. Love yourself.

My ex-husband and I both are light skinned and have dark hair. We had a child who has olive skin and blond hair. She doesn't look like either of us. I know for a fact that we are both her parents. Sometimes genetics are funny that way...

First, let me say how sorry I am that your Fathers Family are treating you the way that they are. Just consider it their loss for not getting to know you.
Second, I look so much like my Mother it's scary. She passed away about 11 years ago, so it doesn't bother me as much now as it used to. Now, I am proud to resemble her so much.
