My point exactly Toodles...shouldn't you just be glad to be on the stage to begin with?

I'm not choosing a best answer on this because no one has really gotten the point. If all the world is a stage, you have no audience, therefore no one impress. We're all trying to achieve the same goal, but there's no one to judge, because we're all in the same "play" of life, and if we're all actors/actresses, then who's the audience and who exactly are we trying to impress?

If all the world is a stage, there's probably a pretty big light.
And what's so bad about not being in the spotlight, but still on the stage? :)
