The audience for country music expands every year. The problem is that as it expands, the music changes to suit more people. So, a lot of what you have now is just pop music in cowboy boots.
I really enjoy Alison Krauss and other artists like her. But, they don't get a lot of play.

I reckon those silly folks with cowboy hats that sing still like it. Maybe other people that give millions to country singers like it too. Toby Keith, Keith Urban, etc. seem to be sorta popular. Gee, I guess people still like country music. I think most of the singers are forced to live in mansions, though. What a shame.........(Sarcasm alert!)

If the billboard sales charts are to be believed, then yes.
Country music is just about tied in popularity with Rap/R&B nationwide, based on album sales amounts, yearly. It is very close..
