I ask because I was thinking of buying some battery operated lights as gifts for some of our family in the U.K.(England), but I won't if I have to send along a lifetime supply of American batteries along as well.

Alrighty then. Perhaps I should rephrase. Are batteries in the U.K. compatible with electronics from the U.S.? I know that it's a different story for things that have to be plugged into the wall, I know that requires an adapter.
