Well, you'll have a group of friends. The majority of them are not doing anything with their life and one may be doing good or trying real hard to get out of the situation. In the end the good one or the one trying to do good always gets killed.

The chase. Where the person is running, and they always, unfailingly fall!! They trip over nothing but always get up in the nick of time.

the innocent bystander syndrome.
Guns. bombs, kung fu, it doesn't matter, it's always the innocent bystander who gets killed sending the mild mannered guy into vigilante mode, where with no training and little or no connections devises a grand scheme of revenge.
Yawn.
by the way that is the plot of every Van Damme he has ever made, and it is always his brother who gets killed and sadly it is never him that gets killed.
