Are you referring to the baby's sex? They can only look at the ultrasound and look for telltale signs. Most specifically the male organ. Or they can also identify the female organ although it is harder. But this all depends of the baby's position at the time of the ultrasound. If baby's hands or legs are covering the organs, it is difficult to tell, and the doctor would have an educated guess, but they would say itis not 100% accurate.

If they spot male organ, most of the time they will say it is 100%. After all, what else could it be??

For females they commonly don't say it is certain. Could still possible be a male, perhaps the organ was currently at a bad angle, etc.

Yes, sometimes a leg gets in the way, and appears to be a penis... Some baby girls have a prodominant clitoris that can appear to be a penis on ultra sound... some little boys penises can be too small at the time, or covered up by their leg, giving them an appearance of being a girl... Numerous reasons why Dr's can be wrong... Not usual to get a 2nd ultrasound and a different opinion of what kind of baby you are having. No real prood till the day!

Of course! My hubbys first child was supposed to be a girl. To everyone's surprise he was a boy! Dressed in pink LOL. But this isn't very common with the technology available these days. To ensure proper sex have a video sonogram tech make a home video and confirm sex on their own.

Doctors can be wrong about anything. If you are talking about gender of the baby, yes, they can be wrong. A number of babies are born "inter-sex," meaning doctors can't really figure out which sex the baby is. This is a hidden undiscussed reality. If you're talking about due date, yes, the dr. can be wrong.

Yes when the doctor told my mom what I was gonna be, he said a boy, and I'm a girl. He couldn't quit see the body parts well enough on the ultasound.
