Any ideas on how much a dentist makes? I'm sure it depends on whether you have your own practice or not. I'm mainly talking about a general "family" dentist, but if anyone has info beyond that (like how much money an orthodontist or cosmetic dentist makes) that would be great too!

Well...
I dont know exactly how much but I Assisted a few Dentists that worked for a hospital. They were paid $500 a day by the hospital. That does not include what they make on thier production. This is why I am trying to get into Dental School!!

Here's what the US Dept of Labor has to say:

"Offices of dentists: Weekly - $510.81; Hourly - $18.96"

"Median hourly earnings of dental assistants were $13.62 in May 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $11.06 and $16.65 an hour. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $9.11, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $19.97 an hour."

"Median hourly earnings of dental hygienists were $28.05 in May 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $22.72 and $33.82 an hour. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $18.05, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $40.70 an hour."

Hope that helps!
