Yes it is. In fact, nowadays, many courts will not even make you present the signed original. They accept electronic media IF you can prove it's unalterable.

It all depends. Typically, scanned documents are considered the same as FAX messages, which are usually legal. But, the company accepting the document has the rights to say original document is required.
