I've seen the movie so many times - saw it when it originally premiered in theaters, for that matter!! - and I cry at the end every damn time!!! I adore the song David Gates sings - it's just a lovely love song & his voice was so pure & perfect for it. Initially I didn't care for Marsha Mason & felt she was wrong for the role (she was Mrs. Neil Simon at the time) but as I've watched it I have come to love her in the role - she gives her so many neuroses & vulnerabilities that you have to love her Paula. I even think it's cute that Richard Dreyfuss was so much shorter than her - but he became so enthusiastic about their love & he proved o her that she could love him without fear. Elliott even made the gay Richard into a production worth watching - at least once. But he gave as good as he got & they were perfect for one another. I love the way he teases Lucy into believing in him, in forever, too - Sigh. Now I'm gonna have to go home & watch it tonight!! Darn - we were going to go see Monster House at the theater tonight - it'll have to wait!!!
