Cold-eez! And if you find any, send some to me, because they don't have them in Denmark. But you have to start taking them as soon as you feel the first scratchy throat, and it will be gone in two days. It's the best thing I have ever tried.
The rest of the advice people have given you is good if the cold has already progressed beyond the scratchy throat before you can get ahold of any Cold-eez. Chicken soup, or just chicken, be sure to eat the skin because that's where the fat is that kills the virus, and don't eat any vegetables or tomato or citrus juice with it. Turn on the hot water in the shower and stand in the bathroom until you are running with sweat, and then clean yourself completely in a warm shower. Do this as many times a day as you can.
Get lots of sleep, take whatever sleeping aids you have to. Nyquil is good for putting you out and for relieving the symptoms so you can sleep. Then Comtrex during the day so you can go around without snotting all over everything.

I can't guarantee that this absolutely WILL beat a cold in less than a week, but it will make you less miserable:
Eat chicken soup.
Drink hot lemon and honey, and hot bollion.
Breathe in hot steam when you can. That will help with the congestion.
Take vitamin C tablets: Cold germs don't like that.
Get lots of rest: That will help your body more than nearly anything else.
Good luck!

Buy Vitamin C in powder form--this is more quickly absorbed by your body. Put just a little pinch of it in a glass of water or juice (preferably without sugar) and drink. Repeat this every hour. This has always worked to get rid of my colds quickly.

I take Airborne but that has to be taken before you are sick. Once you are actually sick it will do you no good to take it. I also pump my body full of vitamin c and I also make sure that I take a multi vitamin. Eat healty and rest. The more you do the more energy you use so you body never has a chance of recovering. Which could lead to mono.
