When I reach 40+ MPH, the transmiision slips. The only way I have to overcome this is to shift into second gear. This is an automatic transmission.

While the throttle position sensor will have an effect on transmission shifting (the transmission uses this to determine how fast your are trying to go) it will only affect shift points. It will not cause the transmission slip under any circumstance.

No the TPS only affects the idle speed.
