Why is it that the fan dial (if rotary) is Off -> 3 -> 2 -> 1 and not Off -> 1 -> 2 -> 3??
And why isn't there a better category to put this question in? :o) sounds like a Science and Math type of question to me.

My experience has been that the fan starts and comes up to speed better at the higher setting.
It may also be that research has shown that people like the higher setting first since they use it more.

The first one introduced these fans did a mistake.
But every one followed his style.
No we all are habituated.

it's easier to get it going fast and slow it down than vice versa
