There wasn't much you could do. During heat waves, people would take unglazed terra cotta pots and suspend them from strings so that the water inside soaked through and dripped onto the floor. this would help keep the inside cool (Not to the temperatures we expect these days)

Don't forget if you were rich enough to live in a keep or castle, you had walls more than a foot thick in places. That much stone does wounders for keeping heat out. (even in winter where all the heat escaped.)

The castles were like living in caves(very drafty, and dark), and if you were "royalty" you had"fan bearers" . The rich would also import Ice from the mountains(I know there was a way to transport it, covered in sawdust so it wouldn't melt). alot of places had caves under them where people would cool off. that is also where food and drink were stored. People were also use to living in conditions like that back then. Like now, I make sure I stay "used" to a fan, though I have an "air conditioner" available to me, because I don't want to "go soft";)

it probly didnt bother them as much..but today everyone is used to being spoiled by AC that if it gets a little hot everyone complains...back then there werent many old people cuz people died in ttheir 30's so it wasnt giving people strokes or heart attacks...

They went swimming alot. They also had lighter clothing for the summer.

Hi,,,, hey my family didnt have air conditioning until I was 13 year old,,,, lol.....we just suffered is how we got thru it,,,, i imagine it was similar back then also.......

Hand Fans and sitting in the creek......i guess also....
