I've never heard of standard variance. Now variance and standard deviation...

To find the variance,
1. find the mean of the values,
2. subtract the mean from each of the values (these are called deviations),
3. square each deviation,
4. add up all of the deviations, and
5. divide by n-1, where n is the number of values.

For the standard deviaton, take the square root of the variance.
