Look for newspapers and city on the Internet. It should list local newspaper and also have the classifieds list, places to rent and also Realtors. Check with Dex phone and address. Chamber of Commerce in the city you are looking at moving to.

I would suggest finding out the names of their newspapers so you can see their postings on-line. Try a rental agent in that state. Also check apartment finders on-line.
Try maybe apartment.com
apartmentguide.com
forrent.com
rent.com
Most apartment searching sites will let you look in different states.
When you look for things in that state, look as though you already live there. Find out some city names and things of that nature and use that when you search.

That's not a good idea. You aren't familiar with the neighborhoods, and people trying to make a sale won't be fully honest with you.
A picture online will look nice, but you want to see what the neighborhood is like various times throughout the day.
Go there, drive around and ask questions.

Call the local newspaper and have a recent Sunday or Wednesday edition mailed to you. Then you will have an idea of the job and real estate market.

www.rent.com
find anything in any state, just select what state you plan to move to. you can find furnished, corporate, houses and so much more. I used this to find my dream home, that I am renting to buy and for cheaper than if I was to buy it right out.

http://www.craigslist.org. This is a great resource in finding places to stay and rent. I'm moving myself and use it regularly. And it has a lot of other interesting services too.

craigslist.com is great!
(has listings all around the country + worldwide..in case you want to move to australia or something!)
just be careful of how you pay for the deposit...lots of scams out there (anywhere though, not just craigslist)--do your research..
good luck!
