I have a 55 gallon aquarium that i want to put my Iguana into. I want to find out how to create the best environment. Wheather I should put dirt in the tank or sand for the base.

Alright first of all igaunas are Tropical!!NOT DESERT!! Soem are actually even aqautic. If you want to make the bottom of the cage have substrate, you will probaly want some type of dirt. I suggest the blocks of dirt, it was brought to the market about a year or so ago, one block makes a few gallons worth of dirt, all you do is soak it in a bucket then put in the cage when a it absorbs all the water. This also hold humidity very well. If you have any more questions you can email me. Look on some websites concering igaunas, instead of listening to people call them desert animals.

How big is this iguana? It's going to need something MUCH bigger than a 55 before too long. If it's still a baby it'll work for a little while... I highly suggest using "jungle mix" substrate, you can get it at most pet stores. It's a great mix of sand, soil, vermiculite, peat moss, mulch/bark etc... and it helps with humidity pretty well.

ok there is something called Calci-sand you should be able to find it at just about any pet store. It is safe for the iguanas to injest if they do get some in with their food. do not use dirt. it can cause impaction when the excrete waste, which can kill you iguana. so get some drift wood, calci-sand, some greenery, if you are going to use live greens, the iguanas may eat it so you have to make sure its not toxic. i use the plastic hanging kind, they work much easier b/c you dont have to maintain them. they like to be high up off the ground b/c they think they are safe if they are high up. if you have anyother questions about iguanas you can contact me at xrose_of_shyronx@yahoo.com. put sand or newpaper. branches with different levels, and silk plants or plastic plants, a water bowl, a hide spot and a cool spot for when their too hot. how bout a rock not a hot rock. that makes a cool habitat.
