In my opion Jimi was way better.

They both kick butt, but I would have to say Jimi, because we all know how great Santana is now... just image if Jimi would not have died when he did... just think how great he would be now.

when they were contempories, you are correct, Jimi was better. However, since Jimi died, Carlos has picked up a few tricks, and is now a better guitar player. Fret hand skills about equal, but Carlos is (at least now) superior with pick hand.

They are both talented, but Santana is still alive, so I say he is better. I've debateed with my friends many times over this same question.

They are both great, but Jimi Hendrix was an innovator. If he were alive today we would still be amazed by him too.
