An acronym is an abbreviation which can be pronounced as a word, especially if it actually is a word, and especially especially if the word is apropos to the organisation, device, concept, etc. in question.
Nocturnal means awake at night, i.e. for an animal - hunting and eating at night, for a human - working the nightshift.
