Hi, I am 17 years in the state of Texas and I was charged with a Class A misdemeanor yesterday. It was Theft for $500 to $1500. I do not know when my court date is yet, but I am not sure in hpw much trouble I am. I have heard I could do up to 3 years in prison. I really need some help since I'm not that kind of person. Everybody makes mistakes, but mine was bigger. Any help would be really appreciated

I forgot to mention this is my second misdemeanor, but my first was 3 years ago, and it was a class c. That was done when I was a minor. In the state of TX, you are an adult at the age of 17. So I will be punished as an adult. I am so lost. No clue where I can get those numbers either!

You need a lawyer. Even if you are guilty, they might be able to get the sentence minimized.

And stop committing crimes!

You're still a minor, so that's a bit of a blessing. You need to contact a lawyer. Call the Texas State Bar Association if you need a referral.

Typically, the only way a maximum sentence would be given is if it is a second offense, or if you have a history of run-in's with the law. Deferred Adjudication is a common practice for most misdemeanors like this. Good luck!

First of all, you can call (or have your parents do it) the court where you were arraigned and tell them you need to have a lawyer and you cannot afford one.
Then you talk to the lawyer. All misdemeanors are so called because the penalty of jail time cannot exceed one year. (Crimes where you can be sentenced to jail for over a year are felonies), so you aren't looking at no 3 years.
The fact that you have already been in trouble may color the outcome of this case, but I don't know anything about the details so I can't say how much. Get thee to a lawyer

Get a good lawyer IMMEDIATELY!!!!
I can not stress that enough!!!
If you ask what the maximum punishment is then i will refer you to Texas Statutes Penal Code § 12.21
Which states:
"§ 12.21. CLASS A MISDEMEANOR. An individual adjudged
guilty of a Class A misdemeanor shall be punished by:
(1) a fine not to exceed $4,000;
(2) confinement in jail for a term not to exceed one
year; or
(3) both such fine and confinement. "[1]

First of all you will not go to jail for a misdomeaner your first time. If you violate your probabtion you will. You will be put on court probation 3 to 5 years. Stay clean after that and you won't be in anymore trouble. And one other thing no one likes a theif or a liar. Good luck.

nicely at first, those that are exceptionally lots harassing you're stupid and probable have no administration over their very own infants (assuming they have them). there's a distinction between self-discipline and abuse, and a sparkling line. i became whipped as a baby some cases and that i will inform you this--I under no circumstances did despite I did returned!! If there is bruising or marks then yeah, you will probable get in hassle...it particularly is crossing the line, yet you're no longer by using ANY DEFINITION a bad be sure for punishing your daughter. "Time outs" are exceptionally lots pointless garble from overly liberal hippies.

Get a good attorney. Odds are very good anyway that it will be plea bargained down to a lesser penalty, with a good chance of you not even getting jail time.

And for the future, I quote Fletcher Reed from "Liar, Liar":

Stop breaking the law, asshole!
