Do they charge you by the gallon?

In Texas, cylinders are filled by weight according to state law.

Some marketers then charge by the pound, some a flat rate for cylinder size & others by the gallon (if meter equipped). All are acceptable methods in Texas.

For larger home tanks, propane is sold by the gallon & measured by certified metering devices.

Propane is a by product of natural gas. It's priced by unit=gallon..However,it's more expensive than natural gas because of transporting charges and storage.
