Other than religion, what other injuries or motivations do these people have in killing off their own, as well as innocents of other faiths. There must be some socio-economic reason beyond religion. I'd love to hear from actual Moslem people.

As a not so devout muslim from turkey I can say that islam has a side that turns you into a stupid dummy, in which you have to have complete faith in the destiny designated by allah for you. That makes you an unenthusiastic and stupid person because you got the thought in the back of your mind that no matter how hard you work, you just can't change anything. Then there is the jihad and martyrdom thing and wrong interpretetions of koran and hadiths (sayings of the prophet mohammad). These resemble bushi-do, japanese war philisophy which involves self sacrifice as well. These all contribute to the factor that you are turned into a brainless entity that can be controlled. The misinterpretations of islam is embodied most successfully in WAHABISM which is the sect of islam led by bin laden today. It was actually endorsed by british secret service against ottoman turkish rule in middle east. 100 years before, lots of ottoman turkish civilians and soldiers were abducted and beheaded by grand grandfathers of those who behead americans today. The plan to rid middle east of turkish rule succeeded but by leaving the wahabi fallout which is terrorising the world today. Jerusalem never belonged to arabs, it belonged to turks before jews took it with the help of the british and the arabs have no right to complain about it any way. The only thing the ignorant arabs can do is to STFU and recognize the state of israel and leave it in peace.

No, there is no other socio economic reason. The leadership of Al Queda is a bunch of millionaires who would live in comfort anywhere they wanted to. it is Wahhabi Islam. Death to all infidels, and that especially includes non wahabbi muslims.

It is pure religion in their minds. Period. When the west realizes this, then and only then will the west unify. I just hope it is not to late when the west does finally unify.

The man above me is also an idiot. The taliban was not the only group fighting the soviets. The taliban was the strongest faction left, and crushed all other oposition in cities. They never had a strong hold on the rural areas. Up until the Afghan war, we were the largest suppliers of foreign aid, and the largest trade partners with Afghanistan, so you attitude that we abandoned them is preposterous. They thought America a paper tiger, and they feared the terrorists in their own nation, as well as a popular uprising, more than America. They were wrong.

Saddam put himself in power through intelligence, guile, and tretcherous politics. It was assinations that breought him to attention of those in the Baath party, and assination that brought him to power. We were not Saddams friend, and were opposed to him, until the Shah of Iran was overthrown. When that happened, Russia and America switched sides, and fought a proxy war with Iran and Iraq, that ended with many dead and as a draw. get your facts straight before you lie to everyone here.

Prior to the current day war with the Taliban, in the 70's-90's US trained and was allies with the Taliban/Al-Queda and gave weapons, medical supplies, and even food to the Taliban, because at the time Russia was trying to take over Afghanistan and turn it into a communist state. US helped the Taliban, in hopes that Russia would be defeated, and the Taliban did indeed defeat Russia's take over. But afterwards, Afghanistan was left in turmoil with no aide from the US to help rebuild itself and a government after the war. Because of this, the Taliban gained major power in Afghanistan, causing them to virtually enslave the Afghan people. The Taliban hated the US government for abandoning them after the war.

Now, the Taliban are trying to get revenge on the US. As a note, it was US too who also put Saddam into power.

Europeans threw off the oppressive yoke of religion and theocracy about 500 years ago, or so. The middle east has yet to do so, and are largely ruled by theocratic governments.

All religions, knowing that they are frauds, try to protect themselves by insisting that it is their way, or death. Therefore, one of Islams basic tenets is world conquest. Don't get me wrong, other religions would do the same thing, if they could.

So, as Islam is striving to take over the world, this then influences the thinking of theocratic, Islamic governments. Knowning that the cannot win a military conflict, instead they give rise to, and support, radical Islamic terrorist groups.

The radicals think that even other muslims must die if they are not working towards world wide islamic domination.

al queda has taken the Muslim religion and twisted it to meet their purposes. No religion teaches you to murder people in the name of god. There are contradictions in all religions (an eye for an eye, strike down the infidel) but the overall theme of all accepted religions is to love and respect your fellow man.

That being said, the non-Muslim world has committed many atrocities against Muslim nations resulting in bitter racist groups like al queda who believe that they are retaliating and fighting for their right to live the way that they want. After mounting crusades, murdering, and occupying various parts of the Middle East for centuries, the non-muslim world took a part of the Muslim world and gave it to the Jews at the end of WWII setting up decades of hate and strife.

Compare this to the attrocities committed against the Irish by the English beginnning in 1125AD and the resulting formation of the IRA and you will see that we have centuries of this mahem to endure.

As far as I recall, Bin Laden himself declared his reasons for attacking the west (specifically the usa). They were twofold: 1. US support for Israel and 2. US military bases in his home country of Saudi Arabia.

This Orwellian 'war on terror' is not about religion at all, that is just an easy manipulator for those in power to wield.

The facts remain pretty clear once you turn off your television and start reading. The USA has imperialistic ambitions and seeks to control the oil rich region of the middle east. This can be confirmed in a letter written by a group called 'the project for a new american century' in which they called for the ousting of Saddam Hussein and said that control of the oil rich region was crucial to long term us interests. Of course, that letter was written in 1998 and among its' signitaries were rumsfeld, wolfowitz and cheney himself.

I don't believe that the muslims hate the west per say; it is more like they hate our intrusion into their lives.

Wouldn't you?

Religion will always be used man, corrupt as he is, to further his own twisted agendas. This is why radical fundamentalists of ANY faith are dangerous, and have contributed to the slaughter of untold millions throughout history. Christian fundamentalism is just as bad as Islamic fundamentalism, if not worse in some cases. Our sad history just goes to show that religion is something that humans simply cannot handle in a meaningful way without it soon being turned into a weapon.

Im not really sure how "real" Al quaida truly is. It is possible that this organization is what the strongest global powers want us to be afraid of. Remember, when the massaes are afraid of a "dark force" rooted in a spirituality that is not acurately understood, there is great opportunity for power and control over those people. We americans have sold our consent and approval over to a leadership that will lie and manipulate us OVER AND OVER. Dont worry about al quaida. Dont let the "news" freak you out.

It is simply an ideology. There are no socio-economic reasons involved and that is why people are not understanding this.

These people are extremists in their faith. They are facists. They desire to usher in the reign of the "Mahdi" and he will rule over the entire world and the world will look to him...but they must eliminate the infidels (Christians, Jews and anyone unwilling to accept their worldview).

Embargos are ineffective against them as they are not tied to any particular nation-state and agreements with them are futile as they only provide them a chance to re-arm (their scriptures tell them that agreements with infidels are not binding anyway).

The only way to stop these Islamo-facists is to eliminate them. Beating them into submission will prove ineffective as it only delays them...they would eventually re-establish their organizations and again begin their campaign against the civilized world.

Oh puleez whoever says that islam is a religion of peace again, deserves a good wacking. It says right in their stupid toilet paper worthy unholy book that they are supposed to go KILL the infidels, and to them if you're a muslim and you're not busy killing infidels, then you ARE an infidel.
I wish people would wake up and stop thinking that they could ever make peace with that bloodthirsty religion.
