i live in the miami, fl area and theres alot of homeless people around here..
being that it stays warm year round im guessing they converge on miami so they can live outdoors year round....

i dont like how they panhandle on every intersection or on every street corner around... if im sitting at a traffic light they come to my car and start waving at me or offering me shi.t i dont want....

i wish they would all be arrested and put to death by firing squad

Sometimes there is a difference in the homeless & panhandlers. We should try to differentiate if possible. (We would probably all look scary if we could not change our clothes or we were unable to wash properly.) If they are actually homeless & in need of help, they will usually offer some service in exchange for money & they are just as grateful to receive food instead of money. Therefore, that is what I do.
I do think "that God helps those who helps themselves" (or should) & if they generally needed help they would have more pride than just to ask for money.
Most panhandlers (at least in my area) are NOT homeless but are simply taking advantage of hard-working people. They had done a survey one the news at one time offering some panhandlers jobs (making more than I do!) & they turned them down stating that they "made money by panhandling". There is one in particular that begs under the underpass, but has been seen in the most expensive mall in the city all cleaned up & his arms loaded with shopping bags. There is no way I would provide assistance to him in any way! Nor any one that directly asks for money---a lot of them you can tell are on drugs. I am sure too many people give them money just because they are afraid of what will happen if they do not.

The sad thing is that some of these people are mentally ill & in actual need of help & do not have anywhere else to go due to government cuts.

There was once a man that used to hold a sign "will work for food”. He really was in need & had a family as well. After a while a church was able to gather enough donations to build a small house for this family & helped him get a job. (One story with a happy ending.)

loll well that is kinda harsh, you know. for one thing, some of those homeless people were made homeless against their will. It could deal with problems pertaining to the following: they probably lost their job, or they were kicked out and nobody would hire them. Also, they could have stopped it and the reason they're homeless is because they ran away from home at a young age, or they used all their paychecks to feed a bad habit they have, thus putting them out on the streets. You have to look at this both ways. Don't degrade them because they're homeless. Think about how their past was, and how some of them would give ANYTHING to give their homeless-life up.

Why don't you try living on the street for a while, and see how you'd look and feel after you didn't have a bath or proper place to stay. Many of those who are homeless also are mentally ill and that is one reason they are on the street. Have a little compassion, and be thankful, it could be you!

To quote a wonderful saying from the Bill Clinton era:

"Only in America can a decorated veteran of the military live in a cardboard box, while a cowardly draft dodger can live in the White House".

Every homeless person has a story, and you are too stupid and self absorbed to even care

first of all i offer you to read the book by john grisham called the street lawyer it will give you new insight to this tragedy of today's society. in a recent survey it showed that around 1/4 of people are 1 paycheck from homelessness. anyway who are you to say what these people deserve?? did you create this world we live in? and are you so superior to think that you deserve any better than those people just because you have a little money? it is not your place to judge, i assure you.

why not give him some spare change and advice, or a job, tell him ill give you twenty bucks if you rake my yard, or wash my car. make him earn it. most people are a paycheck from homelssness anyway. know there stories before you speak. not all were alcoholics, or junkies. some have families. who have disowned them.some lost their jobs, then their wives. figured **** it i dont wann live anymore bam homeless man. some just need a chance to get back on the saddle.a lil pick me up. not just money. a job, or a way to earn money to get back on feet. a friend. youre a heartless prick and hope you get molested by a homeless man with aids. then you take your own life cuz you cant live with yourself. then ill piss on your gravestone. maybe even wipe my *** and throw the tissue on you.

Where I work I have the same situation..so I started asking THEM for money! It worked! Whenever I see one coming towards me I say "do you have a dollar"? and they look away and keep on walking. Try it!
