Advertise! Put ads in your local paper, post flyers around town announcing the production....Let people know there is a play being showed, where it will be held and that it's worth seeing.

We had a show on the road in a town for four days and the audience was literally empty the first two nights. So that (Saturday) afternoon, we took the cast out on the street and started performing scenes on the corner, in parking lots, wherever we could find, handling out fliers and having a great time. We had over 200 that night night, and sold out all 320 seats the final night.

Be creative, be wild, and get the show out there...

Great stories for who? The best marketing tool is word of mouth. If they are great stories that people want to see and are well told, an audience will find you. If often takes a few weeks to create that buzz and even more often it never happens at all because the play is more geared to the taste and needs of the performers than to any available audience.

Creative advertising! Write it on your foreheads, make it look crazy, yell it in the streets, get people's attention.

I have to do crazy stuff like that at work sometimes in order to sell certain items by a certain date. We write it on our foreheads and strap the items to us with tape and usually people flock to see this. Cover yourselves in fliers or something.

Whore yourselves out with shameless advertising. Print out flyers, play out small parts of your stories in public and they say that to know what'll happen next you have to come see our show, TV, radio, blogs, newspapers. SHAMELESS ADVERTISEMENT IS THE KEY!
