I want to thank the serious answers from nice people and not just quickie answers. I've never done this before. I'm just really desperate and frustrated and I don't know if there is an answer. I got sick, have to have dialysis for hours, four times a week. I can't work, I tried for one and half years but only part time and they kept me out of pity, kindness and loyalty. I'm losing my home of 40 years. I'm on all the list there are.

Problem is some will only help if you follow their rules and do as they say. Some things I cannot do and people who have no problems, or illness in their family or any ounce of feelings, won't listen. Problem is most of these kind of people work for the government and their Social Programs. Makes them feel superior, special.

Sorry I'm so bitter, Thank you again to the nice people out there.

Ask your Social Worker for the number for the National Kidney Foundation in your area. It is one of the most humbling things in life to ask for help. You said you don't want to have to follow their rules in order to get their help, but you have to decide what is worse - losing your home or following their rules. Try to focus on what you can do, not on what you can't. On your days off from dialysis, try doing one of those work-from-home jobs. It seems to me that they allow you to work at your own pace. One of my patients does house-sitting and pet-sitting for people going on vacation. She lives in an apartment, and she still needs other financial assistance, but she's doing okay. I commend you for trying to take charge of your life, but you have to responsible and not expect things to be handed to you. Best of luck!

Mostly they are not holding themselves above you, although it usually feels that way. I think it is because they are overworked and burning -out because they have so little to offer sometimes. They took this job originally because they wanted to help people and they are not much help. You have to motivate them. Crying really loud might get you some extra attention. Speaking in a depressed manner might work. Maybe hint that their supervisor might have some new ideas and ask to talk to him/her. They would not want to appear inadequate if you actually did that. Ask to whom you can write a letter in order to get more information and explain to the supervisor how physically impossible it is for you to comply with the rule....whatever. Make them give you the name and address of who to write to . Make them brainstorm with you about other possible help in the community. Come back frequently until they tire of you and help you to get rid of you. Even Jesus suggested that one as a way to pray for help from God. If it works on Him,He says, then try it a lot. Find out the most large, successful, and charitable church in the area and attend at least part time. Stand up in every prayer line and tell them what you need. I always cry in prayer lines since I have been sick most of the last 30 years. Think of some job done sitting down, like answering phones. If they work 24 hours a day, you might find a shift you can live with until they train you and may-be go on part-time. The person who hands out food to customers in cars sits most of the time. Decide if you really have time/energy to keep up the house anymore. If you are moving, investigate the best state for benefits and see if you can move there and qualify. If really rejected, write up a poster and ride back and forth in a borrowed wheelchair to picket them.. You cannot stand up for long, anyway. Maybe you will be on TV especially if you call them and tell them where you are? Well, maybe not. I have only been on dialysis for 4 weeks and my kidneys still work fairly well, but the nurses keep talking about "dry weight" and taking out too much water..I think. It is hard to walk and my BP falls to 73/30 a lot now. And I am never hungry. They are going to try Meggace soon. Good luck to you.

depends on what kind of help you need. I can name of several different places that are national that will help with various things.

if you need food for your family, checkout Angel Food Ministries. If you need help paying utility bills, check with your local Department of Human Services.

Elaborate a bit and you might get better answers

Most churches will be willing to help if you explain your situation. Email me privately as to what state you are in and I will see if I can find some places to help.
