I live on a military base & my neighbors just come over w/out calling. Because they have no life they want to bother me. Well I work from home & don't want to be bothered. Then one of em smokes & leaves there cigarette butts in my yard. Which I hate! I just feel like, leave me alone & get a life. Help!

Next time they come over, open the door but don't invite them in. Hold onto the door and say "I'd love to chat but I'm right in the middle of something - maybe we can get together tomorrow?" You don't need to explain what it is that you're in the middle of, and you don't have to apologize. Repeat this every time they come over. If they STILL don't get the hint, just lay it out. Say "I really enjoy your company, but it would be so much more convenient if you could call before you come over. I have a lot of things going on right now and would appreciate the heads-up". Sometimes you just have to be blunt. Good luck!

OK...here is the plan. When they knock on the door, open it a crack (cause they know you're home) and tell them you are busy and will not be available for the rest of the day. Now post a note on your door stating your "office" hours and when you are not to be disturbed. (If they come over uninvited, just don't anser the door - they will get the hint). Now, put a container clearly marked for cigarette butts (old flower pot will do) and the next time the neighbor throws a butt in the yard, smile and tell him, "look, I put this here just for you because I really don't like picking up cigarette butts". How much clearer can you be? With these sort of people, you have to hit them in the head with a 2 X 4 to get their attention because subtle hints do not work! Don't feel bad about it..just be a grown up and talk to them like you would hard-headed children. It's your time; if you allow them to come over and annoy you, it's your fault, not theirs. You can't be taken advantage of unless you allow it. Good Luck.

Just ask them if they could maybe call before they drop by, and tell them you really don't appreciate it when you find cigarette butts in your yard...

First, find out what they really do not enjoy and get into that thing. Then start a hobby or pastime that is kind of messy or takes alot of time and effort and get them involved in it or ask them to go to the market alot to get embarrising things(K.Y. jelly playgirl magazines etc.).
