For whatever reason hard drive (1) is not and will not boot without starting over and I'm too lazy (and not bold enough yet) to mess around with system files.
If I have an xtra HD, which I'll call (2), I know it works and is compatible w/ the motherboard of drive (1), it also has the same OS installed on it, however, drive (2) has never been installed on drive (1)'s PC. Would I be able to make drive (2) the master and boot from it drive (1) would be the slave. Load the OS and then go into (1) and collect all my important files.
I'm just curious.

Even if the drive has never been installed on that particular PC?

Sound complicated but simple HD (1) has an OS and HD (2) has an OS Now if you want to make drive 2 master check out the jumpers and the set up. make sure drive 2 is set as master and the drive 1 is set for slave. make sure not to set the jumpers to cable select then it wont work right. Oh yea all hard disk drives are always connected to the primary IDE on the mother board.. Then once that is done then the 1 HD will have another drive letter by default /once that happens then u can boot to disk 2 as master and look at the other hard drive by alternate click the E: drive and hit explore/ u should see all the files you have on the ohter operating system. Once you got the files you needed off the other hard disk drive then its free game what you want to do with the other disk drive

yes, just change the jumpers to match what you are trying to do. Your computer will try to boot from the master hard disk before the slave.
