My family is travelling to Oak Island, NC this weekend which is 30 miles south of Wilmington. We are wanting to experience GREAT seafood, local fare. Does anyone have any personal suggestions. And yes I have gone to google and checked out web suggestions...many of them. I am wanting personal recommendations.

Thanks!

My husband is playing a football game in Wilmington so we'll be all over the place, I appreciate the ideas. Yes we had planned on a ferry ride. Doesn't everyone who goes to that area? :-)Thanks so much!

I live near Wilmington. If you are staying on Oak Island I suggest Turtle Island for seafood. They have a great deal on crab legs and oysters on Wednesday nights. Also entertainment. The restaurant is small, so prepare to wait, but it's worth it and there is usually live entertainment. PJ's in Southport near the marina is a nice, laid back spot for breakfast or lunch and Southport has some great window shopping... it's pricey, but nice. Oak Island is really residential... and I can't recall eating anywhere there but Turtle Island.
In Southport there are a few good restaurants such as Provision Co, which is on the water near the marina. It's also a hot spot, not super casual, but not formal either.
May I also presume to suggest you all ride the ferry to Fort Fisher and check out the aquarium? Not huge or anything, but nice.
In historic downtown Wilmington I suggest Circa 1922, Yo Sake sushi bar (both on Front St) Dock St Oyster Bar (on Dock St) and Paddy's Hollow. (Not Irish, It's named after Paddock Hollow. They have a great steak and other items it's in the historic Cotton Exchange.)
Other places in Wilmington that will not disappoint are Hiro's Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar off Racine Dr., Genki Sushi Bar in the Target shopping center, CrabDaddy's near Wrightsville Beach, Pineapple Pete on Oleander, and the Pirate's Table on Carolina Beach Road. Then there is Indochine on Market Street.
Good Luck and have a great vacation!

hey! Isn't Oak Island where the buried treasure was supposed to be? Look up the story. Quite a fascinating one!
