I am neither embarrassed nor proud of our position.
Any position on the Middle East is fraught with so many differing views and opinions it is hard to come to a definitive answer.
The Palestinians have a valid point in that their homeland was taken from them by force because of a declaration of the UN.
The Israelis have a valid point in that since the declaration, they have a right to exist.
The UN was aware of the Palestinian opposition when it made the declaration for creation of Israel. It was no surprise to them when hostilities immediately arose between the Arab countries and the Israelis.
IMHO, the Palestinians have a right to a homeland of their own, which they once had, and are justified in seeking one. BUT, they do not have the right to use any means necessary in trying to get it established. Fighting with Israel and denying their right to exist leads them nowhere except anti Palestinian views by the rest of the world, generally speaking, which make it difficult to support their end. One cannot reason with fanatics. The ends DO NOT justify the means.
Israel has made many concessions in the last few years to the Palestinians. The hatred runs so deep from both sides it seems like an insoluble problem at the present time and with the major players involved.
Israel has a right to defend itself. They should remain within their borders and put up a defensive position. The best offense is a good defense. Any defensive position they wish to take is up to them. But shelling another sovereign nation is not the way to go about it, especially when it was not the government of that nation which is doing the instigating of the action against their territory.
As I said above, it is very difficult to come to any sort of definitive conclusions. Therefore, I leave it to the "experts" to sort this one out. There are too many variables involved for a layman to come to any kind of definitive position.

Not embarrassed at all. (learn to spell will ya?)
You are a dumb victim of the liberal media that is trying to make Israel look like the bad guy. Their anti-Israel bias is what's sickening.
Oh, so you're saying Israel is dropping 500 bombs in Lebanon? How about the over 100/day rockets that Hezbollah has been shooting into Israel for at least 2 weeks now. Yeah, last I checked they've launched at least 750. Did you not hear about that?
Sorry, but it's not Israel's fault that the Hezbollah cowards are hiding behind women and children in populated areas OK? So what should they do? Just sit there and let those disgusting Muslim pieces of s_h_i_t keep firing rockets into their country, kidnap their people, and keep sending bombers to blow up restaurants and malls?
IF YOU WOULD KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE MIDDLE EAST, YOU WOULD KNOW THAT ARABS WILL NOT REST UNTIL ISRAEL IS WIPED OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH.
They're surrounded by 22 countries with regimes that have the same mentality that Hitler did, and you have a freegin problem with them defending themselves?
Do you have any idea what the size of Israel is compared to the Arab nations around it that would love to make it disappear from the map?

No althought I do not particularly like the Israeli nation, I do not blame them for finally sticking up for themselves. Lebanon has been told for a VERY long time to get control of Hezbollah and they have sat idley by and done nothing. Hez is like a miltant group mixed iwth terrorism. Don't get me wrong.. I love Lebanon. I lived in Beiruit for 2 years but Hez is a mess. I can't stand Israel-- the biggest breaker of UN laws ever BUT.... Leb should have controlled Hez

I am proud that our government is standing firm with Israel.
Be ashamed of Hizbullah, which embedded its infrastructure of war in civilian areas, in bunkers under mosques, in apartment buildings and private houses. They travel in civilian vehicles, often ambulances. It's called "human shielding". It has often worked to deter Israel from attacking, but not this time.
Put yourself in the shoes of the Israelis. You suffer repeated attacks on your northern border by a militant group vowed to destroy you. They indiscriminately launch missles at your towns and cities, even after you withdrew six years ago from southern Lebanon, killing and maiming. Then, they come over the border, kidnap soldiers and kill others.
What do you do, plead with them to play nice and give back the kidnap victims? Negotiate releasing thousands of terrorists in exchange for the two soldiers kidnapped?
This is war, pal. Hizbullah openly says they want war with Israel. Not so much because they can win it, but because guys like you will say the things you are saying now. Because human shielding works, in the war of public opinion.
Lebanon is no friend of Israel. The two countries have been in a state of war since 1948. Hizbullah is an Iranian-supported, Lebanese-grown terrorist movement. Incidentally, despite Hizbullah's boasts, they have not done too well defending the Lebanese homeland, have they? They are great at terrorizing, great at manipulating public opinion, poor at fighting the real war they have asked for.
As for the Lebanese civilian casualties and the suffering the country is undergoing, I feel badly. But, I feel worse for the Israelis, who have been dragged into this mess by Hizbullahs provocations, their refusal to disarm.
BTW, did Hizbullah send out any messages to the Israeli civilian population to leave their homes before they were bombarded, like the Israelis did for the population of souther Lebanon?
The USA is right - let this end with a sustainable ceasefire, one that brings peace and quiet to the southern border of Lebanon. War is hell, but let this be the last hell.

Israel was attacked and soldiers kidnapped. Hezbollah must contend with the results of their actions. Every thing has consequences, if you are not willing to partake of them then do not eat at that table.

I am very proud that my Great Country of the United States of America are helping our friends in Israel, and helping the Iraqi's to free themselves from the terror regime of Saddam. The terrorist states are EVIL, and those that fight them are GOOD.
EVIL WILL PREVAIL WHEN GOOD MEN DO NOTHING.
Thank our Lord Above that we are not doing nothing!
