You are wrong. They DO permanently go away. I had my son five months ago and I have NO sign of stretch marks. It took 2 months for them to go away completely on their own. I did not use stretch mark creams, or anything else. Something which does help is water pressure. I suggest you buy (if you don't already have) a detachable shower head and put it on maximum pressure and massage your stomach. If you are at a healthy weight 115-150 lbs (depending on your height and bone mass), the stretch marks should go away in no time. To help them go away, you must also exercise to get that tummy back into shape. Yoga and Pilates is very helpful. Also, If you are overweight, your stretch marks won't go away so I reccommend you try some sort of diet. Don't try a strict diet, it's bad to stress yourself right after a child. Also, Don't become obsessed! Alot of women form eating disorders after pregnancy. Just remember: You didn't put on the weight overnight. You put it on gradually, therefore you should lose it at the same pace. Slowly is the best way to lose it and keep it off.
Good luck.

I had my first child almost 9 years ago and the stretch marks have *NEVER* gone away. My stomach still looked like a road map of Texas by the time I got pregnant with my second child and gave birth to her almost 3 1/2 years after the first one. It still looks like a road map of Texas....with detours. :D

Um... mine never went away. We slathered on the vitamin e and cocoa butter 3 times a day and 24 years later I still have stretch marks. BUT... My siter in law had TWINS on month before me and she didn't get ANY stretch marks. Go figure!

My mom still has stretch marks from me and I'm 25. The lighter your skin the better chance they'll fade.

13 years and counting here... they aren't as red as they used to be but they are definitely still there. You pretty much have to apply cocoa butter or lanolin during your pregnancy before you start to stretch and all the way through it. Once you get them, you are stuck.

varries from skin tone to skin tone. Try some vitamin E which is often used on scars to help them fade.
