There are several reasons:

1.they want illegals to vote
2.they want foreigners to vote
3.they want democrat activists to be able to vote 50 times (as they have done for years)

FRAUD, that is the reason. Why, if only legal residents were allowed to vote Bush would have had near 60% in 2004. Instead the democrats nearly succeeded in stealing the election.

the democrats have had thousands of DEAD people voting for them for decades, they simply keep the voting registration alive and no one ever gets to check it, it was rumoured that even Franklin Roosevelt voted for John Kerry...

i can't believe the idiot liberals answering this question. If I were black i would be offended by the notion that blacks cna't afford or no how to get an ID. ID's are cheap and readily available to every CITIZEN who wants one. You can get one in every county in America. Requiring ID's does not eliminate any potential voters, or even bring them hardship, except in the case of fraud.
Requiring ID's does not give the government a record of how you voted any more than they have now. As it stands now you give your name and party affiliation and they record your ballot number. If you give an ID it is no different except that you actully prove who you say you are. They already have a record of who voted.
Saying that it is a step towards Nazi Germany is the most irresponsible, arrogant and misinformed statement you could make, and it is an example of how the left resorts to sensationalism and fear-mongering when they have no real sensible argument to make. "Let's see, if I make voters actually prove they are eligible to vote the next thing you know we'll be gassing people in the chambers." Ridiculous
The Democrats are gainst ID's for voting because they are losing touch with the AMerican people and it's a last ditch effor to actually win an election. PERIOD.

Umm you two do not know what you are talking about. It is an issue of Constitutionality. It is unconstitutional to require payment in order to vote. The term "payment" has been construed to include other barriers to voting. So, if you are unfortunate enough to be deprived of your ID on election day, if you are not allowed to vote then an unconstitutional barrier has been placed on you, and you are unduly burdened in your inherent right to vote.

You also have no credibility because you are a right wing nut. Al Gore won the popular vote. He should have won the electoral college as well but i truly believe that something fishy went down in Florida. The coincidences line up too well... George, Jeb... the whole thing stinks. Anyway, I hope I could educate you, even if it is just a little bit.

P.S. Democrats care about constitutionality, Republicans do not, just look at the unconstitutional wire taps, the unconstitutional Patriot Act, etc...

Did you poll all Democrats on this matter? If not, how can you make this statement?

In my state you already have to have a voter registration card to vote. To get that you must produce a state drivers license or state ID or social security card. So why do we need another form of ID? Just another waste of government money & a xenophobic smokescreen.

"Why, if only legal residents were allowed to vote Bush would have had near 60% in 2004." Supply your source of this information.

you cannot answer your own question. How did you get your ID? Think about all of the steps that you took to get it, and then think 'how about somoen who doesn't have access to those resources? Anyhow, you think illegals don't have illegal IDs? That's cute.

So, my taxes will go up because people are afraid that illegal immigrants will vote, so we need to have IDs? Doesn't make much sense, we aren't in a position to spend more money, or to take revenus away from states. Now, when you check in, you have to be registered. That is how we check people's status. If you want to improve the security of that system at the SS, I would support that. But, in the constitution, we have a right to anonymity. Whether you agree with it or not, it's in the constitution, and we aren't willing to give up MORE privacy, and MORE rights, for the sake of fear. And don't get me started on voter tampering from the right. It goes both ways.

Exactly! I couldn't have said it better my self!
What I want to know is, if these poor people can get signed up for social services, why is it they cannot have a valid ID. They made it to the welfare office. Why can't cities support these people on voting day, by allowing them to show ID and a voter registration card for a free ride on the bus to vote? If you are unable to travel, there is also the absentee vote. Many seniors and military use this method. Seems simple to me.

my guess would be that because voter fraud is a completely non-existant threat. it's something perpetuated, mostly by republicans, to disenfranchise poor and minority voters who generally vote democrat. i don't think that non-citizens should be allowed to vote either. but there are many other way to prove a person's citizenship than a photo id. this is really no different than enforcing a poll tax or requiring a literacy test. the voting rights act was passed decades ago. you should really live in the now.

The reason they don't want a required ID is because the government in the areas calling for these is attempting to use them to discriminate against certain classes of citizens (namely poor blacks), that can't, for numerous reasons, get to one of the very limited locations where you can apply for them.

You already have to be registered to vote. Why add another level of complexity to the voting process except to prevent people from doing so.

As a counter question, why are Republicans so adamantly against a paper trail on electronic voting machines, or any other way to verify my vote?

Why? Democrats are losing the political war. At this time our country is poised at the edge of all out war in the middle east. In Afganistan and Iraq we are already involved. In time we will have to commit ourselves one way or another on many issues. Our country knows we need solid decisive leadership. Sometimes that leadership must take on and decide on issues that will not be popular with a percentage of the American people. These people tend to be the most determined to have their voice heard. This is fine, that is a part of freedom of speech. Unfortunately the democrats are more interested in pacifying these people and looking good in the papers and in the polls (yes I am aware that the Republican Party is not without it own vices) than making hard decisions that sometimes look mean, cruel, and unnessecary in the eyes of people who do not understand the true concept of war. That is not to say our military should be free to run rampant and "pillage and rape" the middle east, but we cannot stand for another Vietnam where our military was crippled by politicians who wanted a war to look clean when it can never be. In fact our government would not ever refer to it as a war, it was instead called a "military action" Our soldiers were not even allowed to shot at an enemy soldier until that soldier fired on him. Sounds oh so kind and evolved of us does it not? We had to take that high road so we would not be considered as "uncivilized as the Vietcong" but it wasn't so great as you hid waiting to die. But I digress --------------------------------------------

The middle east is and always has been a cauldron hate and cruelty. Everyone hates everyone and only make alliances when it benefits both parties. That is not intended as an insult to the people of the middle east, This is the way their culture has developed over thousands of years. I'm sure there are many many good people from all countries. But, just as we have our own cultural beliefs, so do they. That's just fine. They most certainly have that right. (they DO NOT have the right to fly 747's into our buildings and kill our people over a religious jihad. We for the most part do not share thier religion, but neither to we begruge their right to that said religion. And as a country we have never tried to wipe them out as a result of thier refusal to share ours.

What has this to do with your question? The democrats are afraid that the people are going to vote for a strong decisive government. They also know that they are not perceived that way be the majority of people. Also, I agree with you that this has been going on for years and if this comes out publicly Watergate will sound like Disneyland.

Why are they opposed? They will lose votes, they will lose face, they will lose power. But most of all many of them will lose their freedom. Ballot stuffing is a federal crime.

I hope that answers your question and did not just sound like an angry rant by an angry woman but you hit on something I have been angry about for a long time.

All the best.

Oh on another note -- what is a law studant? could you possibly mean law student ? and yes, I misspell too.

I see one problem. Many older black people were born during a time when they were not allowed in hospitals. No hospital, no birth certificate, let alone a social security card. How are these people supposed to vote?

Why do you want us to LEAVE TRACE of our voting? You're already targeting heavily Democratic districts and preventing blacks from voting and other Dem voters also. Your tactics are clear, that's why we oppose IDs.
