It's been a long time since I was on the Pill and I'm starting up again (I just had a baby and want to wait a few years before having another).

To be on the safe side we're going to use condoms too for the next little while, but it's been so long since I took the Pill (I went off about 4 years ago), that I can't remember how soon it starts "working" after you start taking it.

When is it safe to eliminate the back-up birth control?

I'm on it now, you can stop using condoms after you've gone through one whole packet. Sooo roughly a month after you start. It'll be a little less than a month. For example I started on July 9th...I can stop using condoms August 5th. Hope that helps...Congrats on your baby!!

I've heard different things for different brands. It should say in the papers that came with your particular pills.
