Hey,
I'm a recording artist and I'm 15,
and tomorrow I have a phonecall with a RECORD COMPANY A&R EXEC FROM DEF JAM RECORDS who's gonna listen to some of my past music and talk to me about it!...

Can someone please tell me how to behave around the executive?
Should I act proper, artistic, laid back, or?...

I'm pretty nervous so please help me out!
Thanks
Micky

If a record company is interested in you, then they are interested in you for who you are. Remember that this is a business and you should present yourself as professionally as possible. You need to have your parents available to answer questions because you are still a minor. You should have an attorney as well and if possible, have the call on speaker phone so that everyone who is present can hear both sides of the conversation.

Honestly answer their questions, but also realize that the thing on their mind is making money off of you. No one wants to invest their money in a brat who doesn't want to work hard. If your head and your heart are in the right place, then you won't have any troubles. Good luck and congratulations on this opportunity.

the previous responses are staggering the Demo is a waste of your funds . you want to do not forget that record organizations do no longer settle for unsolicited cloth because of legal topics . it is the reason demo cd's are thrown contained in the rubbish . you should miss about being favourite because there is not any gurantee that surely each and every man or woman will be a favourite superstar . Asking maximum of those What might want to i do ? questions are ineffective because there is not any longer something surely each and every man or woman can do for you . record organizations do no provide away contracts to amatuer singers who do no longer have specialist skills and credit . record contracts are worth 20-50 million money . there is not any longer a record corporation contained in the international that could provide you 20 million money, in case you requested strangers contained in the line for twenty million money they could look at you want you've been loopy . locate yet another pastime or carry out somewhat volunteer artwork .

I grew up in a recording studio and have been around thousands of artists, execs, etc. My advice is to be natural. You are having a business call. They don't necessarily care about your image or stage persona. Even if they don't like it, they will change it for you. The A&R guy cares about the music. Stick to that. Be confident about what you have and do. Let him know you are dedicated to what you do, but be yourself.

Whatever you do, don't bite the head off a pigeon. We all know what that did for Ozzy's career. Oh wait, that helped MAKE his career, never mind.
