AMG is a company that modifies Mercedes cars. Mercedes bought them years ago. The take a stock car and modify the suspension, brakes, engine for a more performance. As mos other have stated the Kompressor name just means the car has a supercharger. Most of the AMG cars are turbo charged however they are now starting to build their own engines that are naturally aspirated (no turbo no supercharger).

AMG (Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach) is the in-house tuning arm of Mercedes-Benz, much like the "M" and "R" lines of BMW and Volvo. AMG means that the car has numerous upgrades in the engine, suspension, brakes, and other performance parts. Usually, the AMG models have a lot more horsepower, and they are better for racing. Kompressor models mean that the car has a supercharger added on at the factory, which provides a bit of a horsepower increase, but nothing else.

Kompressor means it is equipped with a supercharger from the factory. AMG is a company (or possibly a division of DaimlerChrysler, I'm not positive) that modifies Mercedes autos, but they are sold through the Mercedes network. They're kinda like an in-house tuner. So AMG cars get a nice round of upgrades including power, brakes, suspension, and cosmetics. Kompressor cars are more-or-less just supercharged versions of thier naturally-aspirated bretheren.

The AMG is the top end other than the Brabus models. It has a 5.5 litre engine on most AMg models but you can now get a 6.5litre engine on the CL and CLK AMG.

The kompressor engine is the basic engine used by mercedes. It is supercharged and is available in all the models.

I would go for the AMG myself cos you also get better body styling and wheels.

Kompressor is the German word for supercharger ( not turbo as the previous person suggested ). The different model designations tell you which engine the vehicle has. Benz generally speaking, have used the model number to tell you the displacement of the engine but that idea has been become increasingly blurred the last few years. For example, your C230 has a 1.8 L engine. The C240 actually has a 2.6 L V6.

AMG= Daimler benz' special models(Ex. Daimler-Benz S55 AMG) basically the diamler benz AMG is a package a special package this means the diamler has been made by a group of people at Diamler Benz AMG and have there names engraved into the engine.

Diamler Benz Krompresser is a cheaper model of a Diamler model like Diamler Benz C240 Krompresser. This is a down grade from the original this makes it cheaper.

'Kompressor' simply refers to a supercharged model. Blowers are most commonly found on AMG models, but some non-AMG models, such as the SLK 230 Kompressor, have them. Currently, AMG is switching to naturally aspirated motors.
