Ok, I am a division 1 college football player. For the past few months I have noticed a nagging pain in my knee. Nevertheless, not wishing to sit out I have not seen a doctor. The pain is getting slightly worse. I feel it when I get up out of a chair, sometimes when i climb steep steps, or when I rise up out of a squat. I usually can run without a problem. It feels like it is coming from the center/middle of my knee cap, just below the cap. My only concern is that it might arise as a serious problem during the season (which starts in one month). Any guess as to what it is?

Also please list your sources/experience.

Yep, they're right, it tendinitis. Problem with it is by ignoring it it'll worsen. I had it, got so bad I couldn't walk. There are some treatments. Seeing that tendinitis is an inflammation of the tissue you'll need to see a doctor and get an anti-inflammatory drug. Also, ice...ice...more ice. Seeing you're a D1 player I'm certain you have a team doctor at your disposal. The worse that can happen is he tells you to ease up on the squat weight and take it easy for a week or two.

My son is being recruited for D1 football. Where do you play? What was the recruiting process like for you. How long did it take to get an offer?

You really need to see a physician specifically an sports orthopedic. You could have several things wrong with your knee that would require surgery or even just physical therapy. Don't play around with pain and injuries especially with knees. It's not worth the hassle later in life.

Your health is more important than a college football game. The fact that your pain is worsening is a sign that you need to see a doctor immediately. Don't waste your time trying to self-diagnose online. You're just looking for someone to rationalize why you haven't seen a doctor.
