You actually need to know what the carpet if made from,if its 100% polypropolene you can actually clean it with pure bleach,if it is nylon,then you must use several application of mild detergent and if its a wool carpet you should be able to use a strong shampoo.I think the oxi action stain removers are probably the best general carpet cleaners,or if its a good carpet get a professional steam cleaner to do it,they cost about £30 for a living room sized carpet.

sprinkle baking soda over the stain, then spray soda water over and scrub with a nail brush or equilevent.
I did this with a red ice lolly stain that no other professional stain remover could get out and it got the majority of the stain out.

Lemon juice works on a lot of things, I don't know about this. You could try it. If it doesn't help, I don't see how it could hurt. Let us know how it turns out.
