I was watching an extremely offensive old woman on a TV quiz show asking questions. When she calls a name, the contestant shouts Bank but this quizmistress completely ignores the call and proceeds with a question. I'm guessing it's TV code.

The show you're probably referring to is The Weakest Link. The woman was short, had short, red hair and glasses?
The contestants say, "Bank," in order to save the money they've earned because one wrong answer sets the winnings back to zero.
The show was horrible and, at least in America, is no longer on the air except perhaps in syndication somewhere.

And Anne Robinson has made a FORTUNE out of being so rude!
She is utterly brilliant at it, and I have only ever seen her floored once.
Anyway, she does not ignore the "bank", watch the money counter in the background, when they shout "bank", it goes back to zero, and the money that was in it is added to their "bank"

I think you might be referring to Ann Robinson - it's her trademark to be blunt that way but sometimes she can be a bit on the harsh side - not that I watch the show or anything but have seen it in passing.

I agree with lolajoanne, if she wasn't bossy nobody would watch and it would have ended years ago.
I only watch it now and again, I hate it when the idiots bank too soon, and then when they've got lot's to bank they don't bother.

You don't have to be offended because from the first place you don't even know what that bank or bang stands for you only assume. It is suppose to be amusing to you rather.try and be controlling you emotions please.
