I put in a new battery and the problem persists. I hear a "click" sound everytime I turn the key. I have to turn it multiple times then wait a minute. Then turn it again and it starts. It happens every morning. Quite frustrating!! Any idea of what the cause is?

If you have access to a set of jump leads or a booster pack, try this. If the car starts with the leads connected, then its not likely that its your starter motor. If it doesnt start with the extra boost, then it more than likely that it is the starter.Again, if the car only does it 1st thing in the morning and then starts no problem for the rest of the day, its not your starter. If its not the starter, then You need to get the cars charging system checked over to see whats causing the battery to lose its charge. Could be that the new battery is a dud.

Sounds like there's a problem with the starter motor relay. Maybe it's mechanically stuck?

The starter motor relay is the bit of magic that allows a small current running along the thin wires from the ignition switch to perform on/off switching of the massive current (up to 300 Amps in a car) needed to turn the starter motor.

It's the starter, like everyone said. It's a minor problem, it usaually happens to every car that has over 100,000 miles on it, replace it and you'll be good for another 100,000. It'll cost about $120 at any autopart store, Dont buy it at the dealership.

Your new battery might be dropping electricity out. Or, If your toyota works on Diesel try to check that pump which starts the engine, or there might be a problem in the candles ( they are dirty).

Go to the part store and buy a starter. Install starter, return old starter to part store for core value, and enjoy your car's new found ability to start. Good luck.
