I have a fairly new Chevy truck with a factory radio in it. I like to listen to AM stations but they always pickup engine and AC noise. Is there anything I can install that would help get rid of this? Thanks.

There are a few causes for whine in your radio:

-Improper ground. Make sure your radio is grounded properly if it is an aftermarket unit.

-Alternator RF interference. A noise filter can be purchased for very cheap to help suppress electrical whine.

-RF noise from the ignition system. Usually the culprit is shoddy or worn spark plug wires, check and replace if necessary.

Sometimes it is the alternator. Sometimes it is the stereo. Sometimes both. Get a multimeter and check for a/c on the battery. If there is a/c floating on the battery, you should replace your alternator. If there is no a/c on the battery, you have a problem in the stereo. Good luck.

Put a suppression capacitor across the alternator output and chassis.

Try installing resistor spark plugs.

ARE THEY DECENT PLUG WIRES? IS THE ANTENNA CABLE NEAR THE IGNITION SYSTEM? THEY DO HAVE NOISE FILTERS THAT PLUG INTO THE ANTENNA.
