well, since yall have a common interest, talk about that!
ask him questions about his level, and how you can get up to his level...just...try to be personal with him.
while talking, try to edge in thing s that you like/ what you think about things.
and dont be shy.
being reserved (like me) is fine when it comes to guys, but just flat out being entirely too shy is the fastest way to knock yourself down.
no one is saying you have to marry him!
just...get to know him!
and even if his personality sucks, at least you tried!

hope i help'd,
brini.

ps: try to be more detailed with your question. things like 'help!' often go unanswered becuase ppl need more detail about what youre asking/want to know. just a tip.
a good question wouldve been: im shy, but i want to talk to him. what should i do?
or something like that.
be creative!
not generic.

Ask him if you could have a little extra help with karate, like tutor you. That way you would get a little one on one time with him, and just start talking. Or see if your teacher would let your class go somewhere as a group, like out for icecream one day. Or just tell him that you think it is really cool that he has a 2nd degree black belt and begin by asking how long he has been working on it, or how old he is, things like that. Good luck, I hope things work out for you.

I used to be in karate and they had these tournaments. Those are the best places to really learn about the people in your school. Because you are competing mainly against the other schools you have the opportunity for it to feel like a team. Start to watch who he hangs with and maybe see if you can get a group that wants to go to lunch together and invite him.

lol I like the butt-pinching answer. I got a boyfriend once outta doing that. But seriously, just say hi from now on when you get there, and ask him to help you out.

If he's always looking at you, that means he likes you! When he looks your way, smile at him, and look away. Are there breaks between your lessons? If yes, you could flirt a little...and try to get him to talk after your lesson, so you could chat more with him. You don't have to be so nervous. Just BE YOURSELF.

Just go up and say hi. You will find out the rest in time.

Do you talk in huge runon sentences as well? That's a big turnoff.
