On Christmas Eve in celebration of the birth of the baby Jesus, no meat is to be eaten in my family. We always have an elaborate spread of seven different types of fish dishes (cold shellfish cocktails and hot fish dishes- always Calamari, Bacala, Shrimp, Crab, Smelts & Mussels + 1 other that we switch year to year), as well as antipasti & spaghetti.
My family will have 7 different fish because it took it took God 7 days to create the universe. It all evolves/revolves around Christian beliefs, as it should, after all this is NOT a holiday of gifts or gift giving, or even santa claus, but the feast of the birth of Jesus (as it should be). Unfortunately it has turned into something far more political and commercial over the decades, losing sight of the fact that it is really about family, being together, and should be much less about what you give.
We have Strufoli (little dough balls slightly larger than a pea, covered with honey and rainbow sprinkles) plus other things for dessert.
It is a huge meal and a great time with my large Italian family! I love Christmas Eve! It's my favorite holiday tradition!

Dressing up as a vampire each Halloween and giving candy to the kids at my in-laws home.
Because, if I could be a vamp and live forever all my problems would be solved. It seems fun to me to get into character each Oct.31st and become something super-natural!!
i find a new costume each year at the local thrift stores. I found a perfect wedding dress this year which i will color treat and fade into something with Gothic character!! I also dye and wear the wedding veils. I have lace eyebrows as well and costume jewelry...It is SO fun if i could go in costume every day i would!

Every Thanksgiving, we get up early, go through the drive-thru at McDonald's for breakfast and get to downtown Houston early to get great seats for the Thanksgiving Day parade. Then we go home and cook our Thanksgiving dinner. We don't spend that day with any extended family. I like this tradition because it is just ours, not one that was passed down, and it is one holiday that we don't have to rush from house to house.

When I was a child, we got to open one gift on Christmas Eve. It was so exciting and it felt like we were cheating or something. I carried on the tradition with my children and it helped them to be able to get to sleep that night after having gotten to open one gift. It pleases me that all three of my girls have carried on that very tradition with their families and now let their children open one gift each on Christmas Eve. They said it wouldn't be Christmas without it.
