A friend of mine told me he received a letter where he lives in Denver, Colorado and it was from the child support office. He stated that the mother of his two children had requested a freeze be put on all bank accounts due to non-payment of child support, but he had the children for 1 month. He stated in the letter that it actually stated that the other parent requested the freeze, does this sound right or is he full of it?

Payments were not coming from an account but directly from pay check when he was in CO. He relocated to CA in mar and started new job in Jun same time he got children. Now he is back in CO and awaiting to start old job.

She can complain about non payment, but she really can't request a freeze on the account that the payments are supposed to come from. I'll see what a friend of mine says.

Here's what a couple of friends said:

unfortunately that is TV not law - in almost every state - IF IT HAS
NOT BEEN LEGALLY CHANGED through the court system - it is still in effect
and still binding and he still owe it. DO NOT BASE your life and the
consequences on TV shows, they are ENTERTAINMENT - not the law.

yes when it comes to court ordered child support - if the order has not been changed through the courts, he could have them for years and he still legally will be required to pay.

Reading between the lines a bit, it appears the non custodial parent had the children visiting for a month, and decided, wrongly, that he didn't have to pay child support for that month since the children were with him. As a result the custodial parent is looking for the monies due. Is that about it? Yes, she has the right to be paid the amount the courts set as child support from him each and every month with no changes based on whether or not he has visitation that month. Tell him to pay it, and apologize, and hope they remove the freeze.
