I want to get one for my Mom and am wondering how easy it is to move from room to room and if it is safe, as far as burglary, with the vent hose outside the window.

We have ALWAYS had window units. They usually take two people to install because handling them can be awkward. Be sure you have a suitable outlet as some use 220 while others need 110.
I have never heard of burglary being a problem because of window units. Maybe look on a home security web site. I'm sure you can find one where you can ask questions (be sure they are not trying to sell you something). Also, check with your local police department.

Just picked up the Amcorp 12000btu portable a/c at circuit city - about 440 bux... I love it -- greatest invention ever for people who cant put an a/c in the window of the room they need...

I wouldnt leave the vent in the window when you're not there if you're worried about burglary as it doest "lock" the window closed...

But it is VERY easy to take in and out...

It is easy to set up but it takes up a lot of space and the portability is not all it is cracked up to be. You can buy 2 units for about the same price and do a better job of multi-room cooling.

ITS NOT DIFFICULT AT ALL TO CHANGE THE LOCATION IF ITS JUST A WINDOW UNIT.......YOU JUST DO IT ....SECURING IT WITH SCREWS TO THE WINDOWS EDGE.....REPLACING THE INSULATION PANELS OR FOAM AT THE SIDES AND TOP AND BOTTOM.....YOU MIGHT NEED TO PUT A PIECE OF WOOD ACROSS THE BOTTOM.....AS FAR AS SECURITY....MAYBE YOU NEED TO INSTALL IT THROUGH THE WALL WHICH IS A LITTLE MORE LABORIOUS....BUT YOU CAN DO IT YES YOU CAN....

its easy to set up but it is bulky and it doesnt work as well as a regular ac. we ended up getting rid of ours soon after buying it to install a normal ac. dont waste your money or time.
