If a color is ie. red at 420 nm, what tolerance is it that the human eye would see that the color apperance is different +/- 25 nm?

Well, within the 400 or so nm of visible wavelengths, there are several million discernable colors and hues, so I'd say some people can see +/- 1 nm, maybe even less.

Since perceived color is the result of the combined input of the red, green and blue photoreceptors (cones) of the eye, would the smallest difference between the reception frequency of those cones be a correct answer?

If the frequency at which the blue cone responds is 445nm, the green is 540nm and the red 565nm then 25 nm might be the answer!

Then again, a finer quantitative measure of discernability would be the smallest difference in shade of red, green or blue visible to the unaided eye (in nm ;).

there is no demanding line the place you start up or end seeing mild, in spite of the actual undeniable fact that interior the context of your questions it is 4 hundred nm. it is blue no longer purple although, purple is around 630 nm. The seen spectrum is usually defined as being 4 hundred-seven-hundred nm. The performance you seen the colour decreases as you progression in direction of the the two end of the spectrum.. working example you spot green mild at 535 nm approximately 20 cases greater helpful than you spot purple mild at 650 nm. Your eye will proceed to transmit mild to the retina out to approximately 1400 nm yet you do not have the means to work out it.

the human eye is an illusory device of the brain... the brain, driven by the suboncscious, has a predisposition.. whether rooted in upbringing or societal influences.. towards a world of choice. Should the brain be inclined to see every color of intolerance, the eye will follow... Should the brain be enlightened, the eye is color blind...

I think it is 400 to 700 nm (roughly)

I think 400 is blue and 700 is red.
