Yes.IUD is inserted into the uteus which stimulates an inflammatory reaction. As a result large microscopic cells called 'macrogphages' are released, which are believed capable of destroying sperm before they can get into the tube to fertilise the egg.It is also believed to prevent pregnancy by making the uterus unsuitable for implantation of the fertilized ovum.It is 98-99% reliable so it means the failure rate is 1-2 %.Disruption of menstrual cycle is most likely on the first 3 months. If you feel unusual abdominal pain better to get checked as you might be having an ectopic pregnancy. The doctor won't say that the pain is normal without doing few examinations.

Yes, it is possible to get pregnant, but VERY, VERY unlikely.
The cramps and discomfort should subside. I have had my IUD for 3 years now and it is the best thing I ever did. I got the one with a low dose of hormones in it, and a have virtually no period anymore! I get like 2 days of extremely light spotting, plus almost no cramps or PMS.
In the first year that I had it, I did have increased cramping, and it did kind of suck- but I am so glad now that I kept it. It is SO easy, my husband and I never have to worry about anything. We can do it whenever we want, I don't have to remember to take a pill, or when to change a patch or ring.
So my advice to you? If you went back to the doc and he said everything is fine- keep it. It is totally worth it!
Best of Luck!

I personally am a product of the lovely IUD. My mom had one in when she got pregnant with me. I also have had one in the past. Needless to say I ended up in the ER with a horrible infection from it..If I were you I would get that thing removed immediately!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for the pain, I know it hurts. Good luck

it's possible, the iud is not 100% guaranteed to prevent pregnancy. often menstrual cycles can be disrupted or changed with altered (increased) sexual activity

Go back, tell him that you aren't happy with the UID, and would like a different type of birth controll, if it is very uncomfortable. I don't think you can have a viable pregnancy with a UID though. And viable doesn't mean it is impossible to get pregnant either.

You should check w/your doc but I have heard some bad things when it comes to the IUD. One of my friends had one and had terrible cramps and periods.

Yes it is possible, but I won't go into the gory details. No method of birth control is 100%.
If you are having discomfort perhaps you should try another method of birth control?

You better ask a nurse and see a doctor right away. That's not something to ignore. OK?
