Who else is going to take the gifts? Are they going to be used for business? Is the company interested in these gifts or do they just need the supplies? Truly if you get a free dinner for ordering 100lbs of paper or something then I say have at it and enjoy. It's not money or transferable to money and if you don't take it someone else will. And when that happens, will they also be stealing? No they will be a taking a free gift.

It may not be stealing, but it is considered a form of bribe. Some companies look down on this. It is not good to take the gifts, unless your company approves such a thing. Some suppliers will give office supplies, but if you are the supply officer, and you take personal gifts you could get fired. The boss may think that you are excepting a gift to help the supplier. It is a very slipper slope, don't take it.

No. But keep the company informed. Because, normally the price of the free gift is included in the discounts which is a part of the main commodity.

Yes, those gifts really belong to the company. If you give them to the company and they give them back to you, then they are yours. You are putting yourself at risk of being in a conflict of interest situation. Not a good place to be.

If you have made your boss aware of the gifts offered and have his/her permission to accept them, there isn't a problem. If your boss is unaware of those gifts being offered, you have made the wrong decision. If you were caught, it might mean that you lose your job. Are the gifts worth your job?

Yes, they belong to your company. If the gifts are very low value then obtain permission first.

I don't think so... unless the free gifts are cash back or something that can be utilized for work... its always best to ask a higher up... it always helps to be honest, before there is a reason... CYA - cover your @ss!
