I fell down my stairs a couple of weeks ago and badly hurt my right foot. I have had an x ray and it's not broken but it is extremely painful and the swelling hasn't gone. When I poke my finger into the swollen part it leaves a mark for about a minute. I've heard this is water retention and I was wondering how to get rid of it? I've also heard that wearing flip flops is worse than wearing a full shoe, but if i wear anything other than my toe posts it's even more painful. Is this true? Or can I continue wearing my toe posts?

i had water retention in my legs ankles and feet when i was pregnant and i was told to just keep standing to a min. and elevate my legs whenever possible--- eatting less salt and time are the only two things i heard of that really do much......

as far as flip flops i wore them all the time never was told not to much more comfortable than shoving swollen feet in shoes

Keep your foot elevated as much as possible! Also, limit the amount of sodium (salt) in your diet. The flip-flops do not offer a lot of support for the foot, but since you need to be keeping those tootsies up anyway, it shouldn't matter what's on em.

First you need to call your doctor.

Did you alternate ice and heat packs after the initial injurty? Have you been keeping your foot elevated? Are you using crutches?

Perhaps you can wrap your foot in a bandage for support and wear the flip flops?

Seriously - ask you doctor!

Have you tried sleeping with your foot raised on pillows and when ever you sit down raise your foot higher than your body. You should also try laying flat, oiling your leg, then raise your leg high and gently push the fluid down to the top of your leg (it is easier if someone does this for you) it is then expected that you will be using the Loo to get rid of the fluid.

i'm getting that oftentimes in the summer season. it helps plenty if i'm getting a foot rubdown :o) constantly sturdy despite if it incredibly does help. in case you cant locate all people to try this for ya i sometimes bring up my ft with an icepack. mines incredibly painful so im happy its no longer for you. sturdy success!

keep your legs up. the more you stand the more water will collect making it longer to heal. also limit your salt intake as salt causes you to retain water.
